Before I got home from the hospital, lots of people helped make the house more accessible for me. They built me a ramp and remodeled the bedroom and bathroom for me!
So, it’s great that my house is accessible but I may drive my chair into the doorframes more times than I make it through them. Oops ?
When we first started talking about building a house I didn’t really think it would happen. It wasn’t until we were drawing out the plans that it felt real! I’m so excited to have a house built specifically for me and just the way we want it!
We have added lots of ways to make it easier for me to around:
So far we have
-BIGGER DOORS
‑an island for the kitchen that is tall enough that I can roll my chair right up to it! It’s also on wheels just in case we need to make more room for me in the kitchen.
‑We added a Murphy bed (a bed built into the wall) so that whoever is staying with me at night can use it while they are there and then just put it up during the day.
‑I have a bigger shower to make it easier to get in and out of.
-We’re working on storage and ways to make sure it stays more organized so my room looks more like a bedroom and not a hospital room.
Plus much more!!!
Do y’all have any ideas we should add?
The process isn’t taking as long as I thought! We started in November and placed bets on when we thought we would be moved in! I guessed March 4th and dad says May 7th! What do you think? If anybody guesses the exact day we stay the first night you win a free shirt!?
