Rainie introduced me to painting when I was little and I have loved it for as long as I can remember! I asked her if she remembered anything specific about me painting when I was little and she said that I always used her paints and never washed out her brushes…oops! I don’t remember that, but I do remember staying up late all the time with mom while we painted. I remember painting kind of an abstract picture and listening to dad tell me what he sees in it, and I remember feeling so proud the first time someone bought one of my paintings!
Now painting is a lot different for me… It’s a lot harder and more frustrating than when I could just sit down and paint whatever I wanted. But it’s so rewarding when I am all finished and I am so proud of what I did.
Shortly after I got home from the hospital, a friend named Lisa started coming to paint with me. She would hold my elbow and guide my hand where it needed to go. I have known Lisa for at least 10 years and she is such a special person. She has been coming almost every week for two years now. I have to be honest— At first I didn’t really look forward to it just because I didn’t want all this help painting. I just wanted to do it all on my own! I let her keep coming back though because I realized either I could paint with her help or not at all!
Now, it’s something I look forward to each week!!! It is so fun and I need a lot less help than I did when she first started coming. I still help need help supporting my elbow but I can pretty much move my hand wherever I want to paint!
One day she was telling me about Joni Eareckson Tada. Joni had a spinal cord injury when she was 17 and has been in a wheelchair for 40 years.
Lisa was telling me how Joni painted with her mouth and she said, ‟but I don’t want to put a paint brush in your mouth because I am believing you will be able to do it with your hands.”
I agree with her… I feel like if I use my mouth to paint I would be giving up on my hands!
Since the coronavirus, I haven’t been painting with Lisa, but since online shopping is the only option right now, I wanted to paint something for you all in case you still needed something to give your mom for Mother’s Day.
So, we set up my mobile arm support, taped my paint brush in my hand, and got to work.
Then I scanned them to my laptop, added the bible verses, and we will take them and make prints! I made 10 different designs but 5 come in a pack so let me know which ones you want!
I tried to get these cards ready earlier so you could have plenty of time to order but they took a lot longer than I thought, so order here by Wednesday so I can be sure to get them to you by Mother’s Day!!!
Hey Janey. I didn’t let you know which 5 cards I wanted in my order. I would like Proverbs 31:25, Psalm 139:14, Isaiah 40, Proverbs 31:30, Psalm 46:5. Thank you!
